2015 Elko Project Overview
Paiute Pipeline Company (Paiute) proposes to construct 35 miles of natural gas pipeline from an interconnection with Ruby Pipeline, LLC at Ruby’s Wieland Flat Compressor Station to Paiute’s existing 6-inch diameter Elko Lateral near its Elko, Nevada City Gate. All of the proposed interstate facilities associated with the 2015 Elko Area Expansion Project will reside in Elko County Nevada.
The proposed expansion project will meet growing natural gas demands in the Elko County, Nevada area. Those demands are being caused by increased residential and business load and the greater energy needs of mining operations in that area.
According to current route planning (See the map below), the best route appears to extend approximately 35 miles from Ruby Pipeline’s Wieland Flat Compressor Station to Paiute’s Elko Lateral near Interstate Route 80, adjacent to Paiute’s existing Elko City Gate. Under this proposed route, approximately 75 percent of the proposed route either follows next to Nevada State Highway 225 or lies within an existing Bureau of Land Management (BLM) fire-break. The proposed route also avoids traversing any currently known wetlands and complies with Ruby’s interconnection requirements.
Based on Paiute’s current route assessment, other potential alignments would add length to the pipeline, place it in more environmentally sensitive areas, have limited access and/or fail to comply with Ruby’s interconnection requirements.
Paiute will not need to install any new compressors on the proposed new line from Ruby nor will Paiute need to modify or expand its existing compressors in order to accommodate the Project.
